The opening chords are:

Emin
D
C
Bmin

Concluding with:

Emin
F#min
G

The only place where two major chords are a tone apart is when they are the IV and V chords. The two major chords are C and D which means that the I chord is G. The I chord determines the key for any piece of music. This doesn’t mean that the first chord determines the key as the I chord and the first chord can be two different things. In this example the first chord was Emin but the I chord is G.

Additional confirmation that G is the key is found in the other chords as Emin, Bmin and F#min all belong to the key of G. The full name of the F#min chord is F#minb5. Because the bass was playing tenth chords (i.e. the root note and the 3rd played an octave higher) the flat 5th wasn't played in the F#min chord.
