The free stroke technique involves playing the strings individually without touching any other string (as opposed to rest stroke). The advantage of this is that notes can sound together which is only really desirable when the notes belong together such as arpeggios and chords.
These arpeggios sound unusual in terms of their rhythm but it is actually just 4/4. All notes are eighth notes except for the little change where notes 7 and 8 in each bar are sixteenth notes. This produces nine notes per bar instead of eight. |
